Rowden and Liezl planned to marry on July 8th, 2014, on his 30th birthday. In the midst of the planning their upcoming nuptials, the couple found out that Rowden was diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer. Rowden’s last request was to marry Liezl. With the help of his family, friends, and the Philippine General Hospital, Rowden received his dying wish.
On his deathbed, he said “I Do” do Liezl for all his family, friends, and the hospital to witness. Sadly, on June 8th 2014, Rowden passed away, less than 10 hours after his wedding. His memory lives on with his wife, his family and friends. He passed away with this unforgettable moment that he and Liezl shared.
My condolences goes out to his wife Liezl, his family and friends. This video was so touching and heartfelt. Rowden is no longer suffering, and he is survived by his wife Leizel May, daughter Zakiah Rowzel, mother Lorelei, and brothers Hasset & Hisham. May he rest in peace.
Rowden’s brother Hasset Go shared this video that went viral. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVocnNIgKwY&feature=youtu.be
( I do not own the rights to this video)
Watching this and hearing their story really touched my heart. It made me think about love and all its possibilities. It also made me think about my faith too. The bond that two people share, and the love that’s within two people is so powerful, that against all odds Love shines through. Though Rowden got his dying wish, by marrying Liezl, he still lost his fight to cancer. Cancer is such a deadly killer and I hope one day we can find a cure for all cancers so we won’t lose the ones we love so soon.
This story was so touching, I had to share it with you all for my Wedding Wednesday series. Against all odds, love is out there for all of us, Even in our last moments, love happens. I hope this story and video touched your heart and inspired your souls as it did for me. Never lose faith on love, it’s out there. Never lose hope, for Rowden didn’t. Even though he was dying, he still married the love of his life. He remains now, the guardian angel for his wife and his family always looking down and watching over them.
Remember that even when the going gets tough, and your stressed to the bone with all the wedding planning, remember why you’re marrying your partner. Why did love happen for you? Amidst everything, never lose sight on your love and its’ meaning. Every love story has a something unique, for Rowden and Lizel, they had a fairytale love, that will last in their hearts and minds forever. What does your love story tell…….
What would you do for love?
What gives you hope? What inspires you most when it comes to love?
Please share your thoughts and comments, I’d love to hear from you!
I hope everyone is having a great week so far. It’s almost over, but in the meantime enjoy my new Wedding Wednesday Series post. So, as many of you know I’ve shared photos from my wedding on my various social media accounts, advice, wedding decor ideas, and other details leading up to your special day. But what I haven’t shared is our Engagement Photo shoot session and how we chose our photographer + videographer.
Well, ask and you shall receive….
It been 3 years since our engagement shoot. And come to think of it, it was this same weekend and time when we had our shoot, can’t believe it’s been 3 years, feels like yesterday. The weather on that day was so beautiful. Thankfully, mother nature blessed us with good weather for our day shoot.
To start, let me tell you how we choose our photographer and how we got to our engagement shoot session.
First off, finding a photographer isn’t easy, especially one that you’ll like and get along with. After much research and many phone calls, we finally narrowed down a company to work with. And even to this day, we are so happy we chose them and continue to rave and recommend them to anyone and everyone.
After meeting with a representative from their company in our local area, hearing about their work, packages and their reviews we went home to discuss. After many phone calls, meetings, and reading reviews of various companies/photographers/videographers we narrowed down our search. We chose to work with George Street Photo + Video, and we couldn’t be more happier and grateful to them.
George Street Photo + Video specialize in Photojournalistic style of photography. They strive for excellence in executing all of their clienteles needs. They also cater and make make their clients feel as comfortable as possible and are willing to work with you and your needs and wants for your special day. I’m sure other companies do the same, but we felt most comfortable with them after our first initial meeting and going forward. So it just make it that much easier for us to decide to work with them . After you sign the contract and decide to work with them, you select a package, and then they send over their Style Quiz. The style quiz is designed to help best decide and choose the best and right photographer + videographer that best suits your needs and what you’re looking for, for the your special day. After that is determined they will then give you your results and a list of photographers+ videographers are sent to you, you can then view there work and decide from there. Our results for our quiz were : Romantic, Classic, Elegant and Modern. So we then chose our photographer and videographer and they sent us their contact information. From start to finish George Street Photo + Video were very accommodating and they were great to work with. Which is why there aren’t enough words to describe how thankful and blessed we were to find them and work with them. So if you haven’t checked them out I’ll be sure to leave their information below.
Engagement Shoot Advice
What I loved about George Street Photo+ Video is that they work with your needs and wants. So that the vision you have for your photos can be met and executed. What my husband and I also appreciated was that they gave us the contact information for our photographer + videographer. If you can, I’d suggest you contacting them and reach out prior to having your engagement shoot. I know you’ll initially reach out to them to plan out your engagement shoot day, but if you can meet with them beforehand, in my opinion it would make the shoot run even more smoothly. It was such a relief and great to meet out photographer prior to our Engagement shoot. We were able to tell him about us, as he did the same. And he told us about his work and the way he shoots, and we were able to give him our input and what we were look for, for our engagement shoot and our wedding photos. Our initial meeting went off with flying colors, we connected and jived so well. And come engagement shoot day, we were laughing, smiling, and just having a grand ol’ time.
Do your research…. If you have certain photo details or visions in mind tell your photographer beforehand Also, if you want to use props, bring them along. A huge resource and tool that I used throughout my wedding planning is Pinterest. It’s a great website that has an abundance of ideas, details, and decor references that can be useful for you for any occasion. If you haven’t checked it out you should. Check out my personal page and you can see all my vision boards : https://www.pinterest.com/SocFashBeaut17/
Lighting is very important when trying to get the perfect shot. Naturally lighting to be exact. So try and schedule your shoot for the early morning hours or early to mid afternoon hours if your shooting outside.
Try not to wear bold graphics. They tend to distract and lose focus from the photos aesthetics and main focus which is you the couple. Photographers notes: Everyone wearing the same clothing, tend to blend in together and leaving little to not much pop and life to the images. Coordinate VS. Matching…. let’s not get cheesy! Avoid large logo’s, emblems and graphics like “GAP” and “Old Navy” because again, these will typically distract attention away from the subject. We want your faces and emotion to show, not promote the clothing company you purchased from! Be timeless. If your planning on making outfit changes bring it all with your along with your props if you will be having any. You’ll be able to change but on the go, you’re models for the day go with it and work it!!
Remember photos tell stories.. Create a love story/story you and your partner want to display and tell. Show off your personalities and have fun with it. These are your photos for the world to see and to cherish for years to come. So, laugh, smile, make jokes, kiss, and have SO MUCH FUN! That’s the whole point of the session. Enjoy it all!
Please enjoy photos from our Engagement shoot. I hope they inspire and give you ideas for your upcoming engagement shoot. I’ll be sure to list the information below for George Street Photo + Video and our photographer. Congrats, Enjoy + Best Wishes!!

Changing up scenes from seeing the latest trends and styles from NYFW16 events and shows, my husband and I ventured uptown for the 2016 Release party for Sophisticated Weddings. Just your average Wednesday, hobnobbing with some of NY Society’s finest, industry elites, and much more. The event was held the beautiful, iconic and spectacular James Burden Mansion, located on the Upper East Side. The Burden Kahn Mansion is well known for hosting many upscale events and Weddings, here in the New York City area. The perfect venue to host the Magazine Release party for Sophisticated Weddings.
We enjoyed getting our photos taken by Cody Raisig, posing in their photobooth, tasting bite size hors d’oeuvres, while trying out some of their signature cocktails and spirits. I’m a firm believer in trying and supporting all local businesses and seeing what they have to offer. And if your having an upcoming event, wedding or party this was a great way to see what these businesses had to offer and see if they could be of some service for your upcoming event.
We were entertained by local band 45 Riots (one of New York City’s best bands), they did a fabulous rendition of Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love, ” fitting for the occasion. Overall, the Release party was a spectacular event. And my husband and I enjoyed ourselves, and met some great people over the course of the night. The 2016 Sophisticated Weddings: New York Edition is on sale now and it features two different covers simultaneously in circulations.
[” The first was photographed at the magnificent Burden Kahn Mansions, and features newlywed Vanessa Ray, one of the stars of “Blue Blood,” on CBS and “Pretty Little Liars” on ABC Family (Now known as FreeForm).” 2016 Cover A
” The second cover was photographed at the historic India House in lower Manhattan, with Molly Tarlov, the newly engaged star of “Awkward” on MTV.” 2016 Cover B – Sophisticated Weddings ]
The whole evening and experience made me reminisce our wedding day and the whole planning process. Made me want to do it all over again. Weddings and marriage is such a beautiful thing, and something to remember and cherish for many years to come. If your on the hunt for your ideal wedding venue in the New York City area, something that’s elegant, modern, but still will give you that classic/ lovely ambiance this is the place for you. There are so many venues to choose from but after seeing the inside of the location along with the decor and everything, I’d say this would be a beautiful place to have a wedding!!
If you’re newly engaged, getting married or married, congratulations and I wish you all the best now and always. Cheers to a lifetime of love, blessings and happiness!
Here’s a list of the local businesses that were in attendance at the event and ones that specialize in weddings and events:

Here are some of my Ideas and Tips for YOUR BEST DAY EVER!!!
Planning a wedding can be stressful, but it’s all worth in the long run. Just remember to enjoy it all, the sleepless nights and all the tears along the way, its a process. But we all go thru it your not alone.
Here are some of my Ideas and Tips for YOUR BEST DAY EVER:Ways to keep your guest entertained and ideas for your BIG DAY!
1. WELCOME YOUR GUEST
Your guest took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate you and your longtime love. Show them your appreciation with a personalized Welcome bag for guest staying in hotels. Some Items to include in your Welcome Bag: A personalized Welcome Note, Snacks, Lists of things to see in the area, Water, Emergency Kit for the day after the wedding! 🙂
2. HAVE YOUR GUEST CAPTURE THE MOMENTS
There are so many great wedding apps today to use so your guest could capture every moment of your wedding! Create a Hastag (#) for your guest to use to showcase your Special Day!
3. GREET YOUR GUEST + THANK YOUR GUEST
If your wedding was anything like mine, you know how hard it is to greet each and every one of your guest when you have a BIG wedding! But you gotta do it! Show Your LOVE + appreciation to your guest. My husband and I made it a point to greet each and everyone of our 600 something guest. We enjoyed sharing warm greetings, hugs and kisses with ALL our dear Family and Friends! Spread the LOVE!! And after your big day is over, remember to send your guest a lovely Thank you card! Thank them for attending and if they gave you a gift.
4. SLURGE ON AN OPEN BAR
Cocktails anyone…. While open bars can be pricey, their are ways to keep them budget -friendly. You may consider having a few options like beer, wine, and a few cocktail options, whatever you decide, keep the drinks flowing all night long!
5. BE PHOTO READY- PHOTOBOOTH TIME
Photobooths at weddings have become all the rave. They also makes a a great alternative to your guestbook or favors. Who doesn’t love using props while posing for a photo!!
6. SKIP THE TRADITION IF IT ISN’T FOR YOU+ PERSONALIZE YOUR WEDDING
Some brides may like the tradition like then skip it! Remember its YOUR day, do what makes you and your partner happy. Make it a day that signifies you two.
7. DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
Remember although its a day to celebrate the love for you and your NOW husband, it’s also a party for your guest. So keep them entertained, with a good balance of music for all ages. Keep them on the dance for until its time to say Good Night. Arrange a set list of songs, and what you want to be played throughout the course of the evening with your DJ or Band.
8. KEEP THE KIDS ENTERTAINED TOO!
If there are kids attending your BIG day, keep them entertained too! Make your own kid-friendly coloring book, pair with some crayons for them to color at the table. Also, NOTE: Don’t open up the dance-floor TOO late, the little one’s want to enjoy and break a leg on the dance floor.
9. PRESENTATION IS KEY!
WOW your guest with something different and unique, but still personalized to something about you and your partner. Whether it’s your centerpieces, decorations, Small details, or even the Food– whatever it may be, keep them on their toes, while they continue to enjoy their evening.
10. REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN!
It’s your wedding day, things may not ALWAYS go according to plan but its OKAY! After all is said and done, your Special day, will be the BEST DAY EVER, because you Finally get to marry your longtime love. So, regardless of minor details that may occur just live in the moment and enjoy. Because the day does go SUPER fast! So enjoy every moment and take it all in!!
Happy Planning and Congratulations on your BIG DAY!!

What we’re your wedding day highlights?
Can’t find anything to wear and you have a wedding TO GO TO? With wedding season upon us, stores pack their racks with many floral prints, bright & pretty dresses for you to choose from. But your biggest dilemmia is what is the most suitable for you as A guest…. It may not be your wedding but you still want to LOOK chic, polished and KEEP IT CLASSY FOR your friend’s or loved ones special day. YOU TOO ALSO WANT TO LOOK GOOD AS A GUEST TO A WEDDING. But you NEVER want to take the SHINE away from the Bride & Groom. Here are MY Top 5 most common mistakes a women makes when dressing for a wedding. (NOTE THESE ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS, AND WHAT I’VE SEEN AND JUST MY OPINION).
MISTAKE #1. WEARING WHITE
NOW WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS? ITS NOT YOUR WEDDING DAY AND YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT THE BRIDE! SAVE YOURSELF SOME DRAMA AND A CONFRONTATION FROM THE BRIDE AND STIR CLEAR OF WEARING THIS COLOR. FOR SOME IT MAY SEEM LIKE AN OLD-FASHIONED AND OUTDATED RULE, AND YOU MAY HAVE A COOL AND CALM BRIDE, BUT IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT WEARING WHITE AT SOMEONE ELSE WEDDING MAY OFFEND OR RUB OFF ON OTHERs THE WRONG WAY. IN ALL HONESTY, THIS IS THE MOST OBVIOUS MISTAKE FEMALE GUEST MAKE WHEN WEARING WHITE TO A WEDDING OR ANY OF THE WEDDING FESTIVITIES. EVEN IT YOU WANT TO BE SEEN AS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION, BE KIND AND NOTE ITS NOT YOUR DAY SO DON’T TRY AND STEAL THE SHINE OFF THE BEAUTIFUL BRIDE. TO PLAY IT SAFE GO FOR A LITTLE BLACK DRESS. even though white is such a classic and feminine color to choose, just for that day and during any of the wedding festivities avoid wearing this color option. try a classic little black dress to play it safe.
MISTAKE #2. WEARING RED
ALTHOUGH RED IS A GREAT COLOR, AND A GREAT COLOR CHOICE FOR A WEDDING. BUT red DRAWS ALOT OF ATTENTION–ITS BRIGHT AND VIBRANT SO INSTEAD OF EYES BEING ON THE BRIDE & GROOM YOU MAY BE THE ONE GUEST that everyone WILL BE STARRING AT. AND IF YOU ARE TAKING PICTURES and THE COLOR PALETTE OF CHOICE IS MOSTLY PASTELS OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES AND YOUR THE ONE IN RED YOU WILL DEFINITELY STAND OUT! TRY NOT TO “STEAL THE SHOW” FROM THE LOVELY BRIDE AT ALL COST AND AVOID WEARING A FIERY RED OR EVEN A BRIGHT RED DRESS. TRY SOMETHING LESS LOUD AND MORE SUBDUED LIKE A DEEP CRANBERRY just SOMETHING NOT SO BRIGHT and fiery.
MISTAKE #3. NOT FOLLOWING THE INVITATION DRESS CODE
ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE THATS MOST COMMON FOR GUEST IS THAT THEY FAIL TO CHECK THE DRESS CODE FOR THE EVENT. WHEN YOU IGNORE THE SUGGESTED DRESS CODE FOR THE EVENT IT CAN SHOW LACK OF INTEREST OR RESPECT FOR THE COUPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES. RULE OF THUMB: IF ITS A BLACK TIE WEDDING GREAT OPTIONS WOULD BE A NICE EVENING GOWN OR A SLEEK AND CHIC COCKTAIL DRESS IS APPROPRIATE AND EXPECTED. AND FOR A SUMMER CASUAL OR EVEN BEACH WEDDING A NICE DAYTIME SUMMER DRESS, SKIRT AND TOP OR A LIGHT SUIT IS REQUIRED. AND IF THERE IS NOt a SPECIFIED DRESS CODE, FOR A SUMMER WEDDING A COLORFUL SUMMER DRESS IS A SAFE BET AND FOR A FALL WEDDING A DEEP BUT SUBTLE COLOR DRESS WOULD BE FINE AS WELL. PAYING ATTENTION TO the DRESS CODE IS KEY, PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL SO YOU AVOID FEELING OUT OF PLACE,
DRESSING OR WEARING THE SAME COLOR AS THE BRIDESMAID IS A DEFINITE NO NO!! IF YOU WEREN’T ASKED TO BE IN THE WEDDING AND YOU HAVE NO PART OF THE ENTOURAGE DON’T CHOOSE THE SAME COLORs AS THE THEME FOR THE WEDDING. YOU DON’T WANT TO CAUSE CONFUSION FOR THE GUEST LET ALONE THE WEDDING ENTOURAGE. FINDING OUT THE COLOR SCHEME AND trying to COORDINATE IDEAS TO GO WITH THE THEME IS THOUGHTFUL AND A GREAT IDEA, but in retrospect BY DOING SO, YOU MAY GIVE OFF THE IMPRESSION THAT YOU’RE OFFENDED AT NOT BEING ASKED TO BE A BRIDESMAID. SOMETIMES IT CAN BE JUST ON COINCIDENCE AND NOT PLANNED AND IN THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES THEY CAN’T BE HELPED. THESE ARE JUST BASED ON MY EXPERIENCES AND WHAT I’VE SEEN AT THE MANY WEDDINGS I’VE BEEN TO AND ESPECIALLY MY OWN WEDDING. SO JUST A RULE OF THUMB WHEN CHOOSING COLOR SCHEMES AS A GUEST TO A WEDDING.
THIS IS DEFNITELY A HUGE NO NO NO! PLUS TO ME IN MY OPINION, its VERY TACKY AND DISRESPECTFUL TOWARDS The COUPLE AND THEIR RESPECTIVE FAMILIES. NOW I KNOW NOWADAYS, WE ALL WANT TO LOOK FLY AND ON POINT ALL THE TIME. AND WITH THE INFLUENCES OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND OTHER PLATFORMS WE Can BE INFLUENCED by this common mistake. just remember a wedding is a classy and memorable event. and by wearing inappropriate clothing, your look can downgrade or cheapen the event. especially wearing something that should be worn during a bachelorette party or a club, definitely not an appropriate look to choose. the reception is definitely a party filled with dancing and i’m sure a room filled with single cuties, but it isn’t the time nor place to show off your curves or best assets. Leave these dress options for the bachelorette party or the club, believe me no one needs to see so much cleveage its not a good look. even though some men may think so, but its not a good look for such a classy event– a wedding!! keep it chic, classy, and polished.
these are just my top 5 what not to wear mistake that i’ve seen and in my opinion are a no no no for a wedding. be mindful and conscious of your surroundings and the couple that your celebrating. remember its a day about them and the love they share. enjoy and have fun!!
