Message from God: Just be You

Posted on: April 23, 2018

And out of nowhere, I hear God say to me, Just be you. Nothing else, I am in love with you, I am pleased with you. I felt overwhelmed by the realization that I am enough, just as I am…..

Sometimes, with the struggles of our daily lives and everything around us we get too “caught up” with trying to be something we aren’t and forget who we are along the way. The last couple of months, I have been struggling with so much. Trying to find the answers, trying to figure it all out. At times I felt like God and my faith abandoned me. I started to lose hope in a lot of things. I know we all have been lost, even seen a lot of dark times in our lives. Let me tell you, the struggle is real, and I mean that in all honesty. Life is never easy by no means. Life can be beautiful and challenging all at the same time. But, hey that’s life right?! Sometimes the strongest among us are the ones who smile through silent pain, cry behind closed doors, and fight battles we know nothing about. I know I let out a good cry here and there and that’s okay. Letting out a good cry here and there doesn’t make me weak, it makes me real and human. Even moreso open and honest with you all by telling you all this, but I like to keep it real and 100% with you always.

Sometimes, we need to take a breath and realize, we need to love ourselves wholeheartedly always.  At times, we can let society, the media, our circle of friends, colleagues, family whoever it is tell us what we need to be, who we should be and what we should be doing with our lives. No matter what anyone says, just be yourself. Don’t try to be something your not. Be authentically you. God created us to be unique individuals, and sometimes we need a reminder from time to time. We need to stop comparing ourselves to this person and that person and be comfortable with ourselves and who we are.

I know this is a constant struggle for all of us, myself included. Life isn’t always perfect. With social media ruling over us these days, there’s a constant need to strive for perfection. Just remember, looks can always be deceiving, and nothing is ever as perfect as it seems.  And that’s ok, don’t strive for perfection, try and work through your struggles, learn and grow from it. Add value to your life and purpose that is more fruitful beyond measure. It’s all about perception and what you believe is perfect and right for you. Just remember, you are beautiful, kind, loving, unique, intelligent, humble, and amazing just the way you are. Never forget that. I too, have to remind myself of this all the time, so trust me you’re not alone. I hope this will encourage and motivate us all to never lose sight of who we are and what is important. And if we do, it’s these little reminders and words of wisdom from the big man up above speaking to us always. God’s always on our side watching over us and guiding us along the way. Let’s never forget him, our faith and all he has to show and tell us. No one is you and that is your power.

I’ll end by saying, keep your faith. I know it may not seem like it now but listen theres a message in the word always.  This is my message to you today and always. Stay true to yourself, stay inspired, be empowered, have faith, never stop believing in yourself and never give up loves!!

Women’s Wednesdays: Anniesa Hasibuan

Posted on: March 15, 2017

As Women’s History month continues, I wanted to show recognition to this remarkable woman. Someone who has redefined culture, impacted the world and fashion and is the epitome of what it is to be a strong, empowering female. Her name has been heard all over the world and rightfully so. At the young age of 28, her designs go beyond fashion, she is not only a designer but an influential role model for many women all over the world. Her name is: Anniesa Hasibuan. If you haven’t heard of her yet, now you have, she is one woman whose unforgettable. A humble, talented women that has made her mark on the world as one of the first Indonesian females to present during NYFW last September.

This NYFW season, I was grateful to attend another show of hers, and I was reluctant to sit front row alongside my fellow Lady Bosses Ellese from Rock Paper Glam and Gina from What The Doost. Each season, I’m in complete awe with all of the creations the designers present during NYFW. Anniesa Hasibuan is one designer who not only creates exceptional pieces but gives a whole new meaning to the word empowerment. Last September, she presented her collection where all her models wore the infamous hijab. The Hijab as been seen on many women all over the world often times as a sign of modesty and privacy. Most often, women have been stereotyped as disempowered and constricted when wearing the hijab. But she quickly changed many perceptions of that in one evening. It’s as if I was transported to another time, where women were seen as equals, where we all stood strong and proud wearing the hijab. In one evening, her impact during NYFW, made a HUGE statement in the most positive ways seen all over the world.   The hijab is now not only seen as a strong symbol for many women around the world, but a big fashion statement that is recognized and seen has something quite powerful.  Despite’s many misconceptions and stereotypes, Anniesa Hasibuan changed the view of many and has made a huge impact on both the world and fashion.

This season, she presented her F/W ’17 collection Drama. Once again, she left us in complete awe with all the glitz and glam. Each model dazzled and shined down the runway, in her hand beaded pieces, full-length detailed skirts and intricate designs accessorized with once again the infamous hijab. Her collection and show uplifted our spirits and left us wanting more. Although the hijabs proved to be the main focus last season that wasn’t the case this season. They blended into the background as the outfits took center stage— but perhaps this was the intention. Her designs modeled and seen on the runway illustrated a strong, elegant, glamorous, empowered woman who had exceptional taste and exuded a luxurious lifestyle and persona. Anniesa has proved to us that she is a women beyond her time that can will continue to make waves and statements for all of us to applaud and follow. It comes to no surprise that Anniesa Hasibuan stunned her audience again with an intense, regal runway show. I’m sure many of you are aware of how we females have felt disempowered in our society lately. After seeing Anniesa’s show and many other designers during NYFW, the presence of the female voice was very strong. Giving us all hope that we can all stand proud, unite together and feel strong, empowered and uplifted.  If you attended any of the shows at NYFW you felt the strong politic presence this season. The feeling and atmosphere was quite powerful. Anniesa Hasibuan not only keeps us fashionable but inspires us to be all we can be no matter what race or culture. More reasons to love her, not just for her fashionable creative talents but her encouraging female spirit.

After seeing her show, I left feeling proud and teary-eyed. Her runway show not only gave me chills, but the message and impact she’s made on the world is truly incredible. There aren’t many women who’ve dared to make a difference, made changes in cultural perspectives and continues to uplift everyone around them but she is one whose done this and so much more. I’m blessed and grateful to witness her journey and see how she’s made a name for herself heard all over the world.  She is a true example of a strong, influential, creative, inspiring lady boss who we all can look up to and follow for years to come.

Have you got your SOUL on yet?

Motivational “Soul” Monday’s

soulcycle-9

I discovered SoulCycle at a time when I needed it the most. I had just gotten engaged and I was about to plan my version of “My Big Fat Filipino-Guyanese Wedding.” With wedding stress on my mind, work and other things happening at the time, I needed something that could help relieve me from everything going on. Running usually is my go to, source for exercise and the ultimate stress reliever. But I started to see my body plateau and I wasn’t seeing any results, my body had gotten used to my routine and daily workouts, and I too,  started to get bored with it. I started to explore different options, even classes that would still give me a great workout, help me get fit and in shape for my wedding, but also fun and something that wasn’t tiresome or tedious. Let’s face it, we all have those moments where we don’t want to workout, but we all know we should. It only makes us better and in turn its great for our overall health.

Thus, began my obsession with SoulCycle. I was hearing the word Soul everywhere. It was the latest craze in the fitness world and heard all over New York City. All the celebrities were doing it, it was literally everywhere. I was hearing many different reviews about SoulCycle, but the only way I would ever really know what all the talk was about is if I would try it for myself.  I’ve taken a spin class before, and I will be completely honest, I had my butt kicked. But when I walked into my first class SoulCycle class in the Tribeca, I will admit, I was intimidated. But, I was eager to see what Soul was all about. I was determined to get thru my first class. What I did notice is that everyone was so welcoming, it wasn’t just your normal spin class. It was a fun-filled, upbeat 45 minute class that worked all parts of your body. What makes SoulCycle different from your normal spin class, is that you work all elements of your body, while moving to the beat of the music. After I started to get the hang of it, I learned some new moves on the bike and was moving and grooving to the music. My intimidation soon passed when my instructor, Krista, reassured me and other newbies, we could go at our own pace. If we couldn’t get on the beat, not to worry, just as long as we listened to our bodies, have fun and follow along as best as we could. No judgements! You can just feel the energy in the room, it was contagious, I wanted more. I craved for more soul.  After 45 minutes was up, I knew I was definitely coming back. While I still went on runs and to the gym, I began going to SoulCycle regularly. I started to see the changes in my body, mind, and soul. I felt stronger both mentally and physically. I felt more at ease and less stressed. I truly can say that SoulCycle has helped me become a better me. Not to mention, it was fun riding alongside the likes of : Tyra Banks, Bradley Cooper. and Kelly Ripa When I say everyone is joining SoulCycle, I mean EVERYONE! 🙂 So happy I found Soul cycle especially before my wedding.

What you learn in Soul isn’t just about the physical. It’s a mind, body, spirit experience. Soul cycle is more than just a spin class it allows you to find perspective, get centered, change your body and find your SOUL. If your looking for a class that’s fun, strength building both mentally and physically then SoulCycle is for you. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve said this time and time again, every ride is different but the outcome is always the same, AMAZING! I love the feeling I get after each class. I feel empowered, refreshed, and ALIVE. No one can ever take what you’ve worked on and what your working towards away from you. You are in control, and you decide. SoulCycle, a brand, a community, a way of life. Get your Soul on today!

If you haven’t tried SoulCycle yet, I highly recommend it. You can always find me on the bike either in Tribeca or the West Village. Come ride with me! Let’s get our Soul on together.
