NYFW MARISSA WEBB SS17

Posted on: September 16, 2016

Marissa Webb is one designer I love and admire. When I attended her show last season, I was simply amazed by her incredible work. I can definitely say the same for this season. She presented on Day 1 of NYFW on September 8th at the Skylight Clarkson Gallery. Marissa Webb is one designer who perfectly balances feminine and masculine elements into her designs. Her designs exude cool, sophisticated, chic, and effortless all at the same time. Her SS17 Collection featured a soft palette of neutrals with pops of burnt orange, chartreuse in delicate silks and subtle ruffle accents. One of my favorite looks from this collection was her take on a suit. A modern day version of a traditional suit, and the back detail was just to die for. Every piece was absolutely AMAZING! I definitely had my favorites from her Ready-to-Wear collection. I wanted every piece in my size for my closet. I loved how she paired a military inspired jacket with her soft, pretty, floral dress. And how she paired a silk floral top with leather pants, seemed fitting and oh so stylish!

(MY FAVORITES FROM THE COLLECTION)

When it comes to design, Marissa Webb doesn’t need to dig deep to find inspiration. She dresses what she knows best, and what speaks to her. Her inspiration comes from what’s around her, specifically ” The Modern New York woman,” as she stated backstage before the show. Although, her designs are inspired by the Modern New York woman, they aren’t the only ones who will fall in love with this collection.

What’s your favorite from the collection?

As always, thanks for reading, following, and supporting me in my journey. I hope you enjoyed my photos and recap

——

If you know me by now, then you know that I’m one who likes to change up my look every now and then. I’m all about experimenting, especially with my hair. Especially since I work in an industry where I need to stay up to date with current trends. For today’s post, I’m sharing with you all my hair journey. I will spare you the horrible, ratchet and embarrassing photos of my hair. I’ll just give you a short backstory behind my hair.

Let’s just say, my hair has been thru hell and back. Well, maybe not hell, but not in the best state. Thanks to the hair God’s and some research, I managed to find Kathy, thanks to her my hair has been brought back to life. But here’s a little back story before Kathy came to my rescue.

Prior to my meeting and introduction with Kathy, my hair had been thru a lot. My bad hair days started with a professional hair dye gone wrong, extremely wrong. In all the worst ways possible. I wanted to go a little lighter for the Summer and my previous hairstylist didn’t listen to what I wanted. He didn’t refer to my photo and decided to give me something completely opposite from what I wanted. He took my brown hair to platinum blonde. Can you imagine me with Platinum Blonde locks?! Trust me, it wasn’t a pretty, on me at least. Other Filipina’s and others can pull it off, yes, but I myself could not. And I wasn’t happy at all. When I ran my hands thru my hair, the ends no longer felt silky smooth. But rather, rough and like hay. My hair was officially damaged and fried. It needed a HUGE detox and time to breathe before going back and fixing it. I spent the next week at work and basically everywhere I went wearing a huge hat on my head at ALL times. But I was at my breaking point, and I just couldn’t live with my hair looking a hot mess for another week. [Due to scheduling, he couldn’t fit me in to fix the job he so horribly did wrong] I was left with no choice. [I haven’t done this in quite sometime] I went to the drugstore bought a box dye and dyed my own hair. Now putting my hair thru more shock and damage. I took it back to the dark side. Due to my hair being overly damaged and over processed, some green started to show after I dyed it. The color I picked up was Jet Black. My hair had gone thru so much in a short amount of time, it started to react to all the damage being done to it. My hair was fried, overly dyed and all sorts of damaged. It needed some TLC and fast!

After much research and just being fed up with my hair, I reluctantly was able to get an appointment at yet another local hair salon. There I met, Kathy. She looked at my hair, listened to me and knew just what to do. I brought in a photos for her to refer to.  She loved the fact I brought in photos, great for reference and inspiration. She told me, it’s always best when clients bring in photos, they not only make for great references, but another way to really visualize what the client wants. What I loved about her is that she’s brutally honest. She’ll tell you right off the bat if that particular hairstyle will suit you or not. She’s not afraid of telling you NO! She wouldn’t want her clients walking out of her salon, with 1. A bad hair do and 2. A Bad hair dye job and have her name written all over that, NO WAY! I love her way of thinking. Double plus in my book, I’m all about that, honesty is the best policy, am I right?! Kathy is amazing at what she does, she’s like a chemist in her own lab, well salon. She knows what colors to mix and what will look perfect for that particular client.  Not only does she know her colors she gives a FABULOUS Lob haircut and blowout! I’m just so happy and blessed to have found her when my hair really needed it. Since meeting her last winter, she’s given me Spring/Summer ready hair and now Fall-Ready hair. I absolutely love my lob hairstyle and my perfectly rich Chocolate bronde (Brown and slight blonde) balayage color.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t let just anybody touch my hair let alone color my hair. But after speaking with Kathy, telling her my worries, what I had gone through and what I’m looking for, I knew I was in good hands. Even after my hair woes, Kathy brought my hair back to life.

Needless to say, every time I come into the salon, I’m immediately put at ease. And now, every time I leave the salon my hair looks AMAZING and I feel fabulous. Thank you so much Kathy for giving me gorgeous hair and bringing it back to life. If you’re ever in the Jersey City/Hoboken area, and looking for an AWESOME stylish, with killer skills and a fabulous personality be sure to make an appointment with Kathy and the fabulous ladies of the Two 01 Salon. Located at: 404 14th Street, Hoboken, New Jersey.

As always, thanks for reading, following along and supporting me in my journey.

FASHION FRIDAY: TRUE LADY BOSSES WHO MADE THEIR DREAMS INTO REALITY EDITION PART I

Happy Friday Loves!!

For my Fashion Friday’s, todays edition will feature two fashion designers. This SFBFashionFriday Edition will be broken up into two parts. The first will feature my Q&A session with Fashion Designer Lavandya Coodly. Where she tells us all about her designs and how her passion for Fashion came about. To learn more continue reading!!

Ever wondered what it was like to design clothes and what goes into it? How to make a garment from start to finish?  Continuing reading my Q&A session with Fashion Designer Lavanya Coodly.

Q. What is your name?

A. Lavanya Coodly, of Indian decent.

Q. Give us a little background of yourself, how did you get started in jewelry design?

A. My start in design came very early in life and inadvertently. Growing up in India at a time when we did not have mass production in clothing that could be purchased off the rack, designing one’s garment was not unusual. My aunts living in the USA would send me Sears and McCall’ catalogs. Outfits I saw in these catalogs were my original sources of inspiration. I began designing my clothing at the age of Seven or Eight.

Q. Did you have any formal training for clothing design? How did you come to realize your talents?

A.  I have had a lot of formal schooling but none in  garment design! To that extent, I am self-taught, learning through experimental trial and error. With the help of my talented team members. The brand aesthetic and design ideas are my own.

Q. What lead you into the direction of designing?

A.  I have always been interested in textiles, weaves, colors, prints and personal presentation ever since I can remember. I could never get tired of being engaged in any of these. After spending many years in bio-medical research, I wanted to work in a different area. Designing clothes was a natural second career choice because firstly, it’s my passion, my hobby. Secondly, I felt that I had a point of view which could be expressed and thirdly, I would be addressing a void in the market.

Q. Where does your inspiration come from when designing your pieces?

A. Inspiration comes from many sources- travel, walks on the beach, music, films, engaging with nature and the world around me. I am particularly drawn to fabrics places that I love or spent my childhood. I welcome the challenge of using what is available to create a look. After all, designing should solve a problem and a good designer must be able to create something unique from unexpected findings.

Q.  What is your process when you design your piece? What are things you incorporate or don’t?

A. I use natural fabrics as much as possible. Handwoven silks, cottons and wools are my favorite mediums. Our cotton prints are hand blocked by skilled artist using non-toxic, environmentally friendly dyes. Our embroideries are also hand executed by skilled workers. Each design begins with a sketch that is worked on until the idea become coherent and the design flows smoothly, from my perspective. I am open to incorporating most ideas EXCEPT anything that would make the garment uncomfortable to wear or would knowingly harm those that lack a voice in our society-environment, child, the poor or animals.

Q.  What were your first design pieces that you created? And how has your brand evolved over the years?

A.  My very first piece was a dress created from imported blue lace when I was 7 or 8. Professionally, I began with making embroidered silk tunics. Since then, we have incorporated pants dresses, evening gowns, jackets, skirts, night wear, and bridal gowns. I am also pleased to introduce comfortable, multi-functional pants for women who work out of home and need to rush out for quick errands.

Q. Who do you envision wearing your work/designs? Do you think about this when your designing a piece?

A. I think my designs would connect with urban woman who are bohemian at heart. They dress to please themselves. I am attracted to soft and flowing feminine silhouettes as much as more defined constructions. What I design depends on the fabric and materials in front of me. A soft watercolor print would result in a feminine silhouette with gathers and soft ruffles whereas a heavy ikat cotton weave would most probably end up as a pair of shorts. We have also begun designing bridal gowns, menswear and clothing for children. My brand is slowing but surely expanding.

Q.  What are some new designs you’re working on? What do you envision for the future?

A.  I have been recently given the opportunity to work with a talented and visible Hollywood actress. We will begin creating several looks for her based on events, as well as her style and color preferences. I am also developing my Spring and Summer 2017 collection for Women, Men, and children incorporating some new concepts. I plan to introduce some new ideas in Bridal gowns as well. I would like the brand to grow in all these areas. I strongly feel that designing should be in step  with societal and lifestyle changes.

Q. How did you go about creating your business plan and what was your starting investment?

A. I started with an investment of less than $1000 dollars because testing I was testing the waters. The business plan evolved out the reaction from customers and my own desire to address a void in the market for range of stylish but comfortable and well- made clothing that would take you from the moment you begin your day and up until you fall asleep. We don’t want to overproduce and be wasteful.

Q. What’s a typical day in your life at your office?

A. I wake early and begin with discussing updates of work received from my overseas team. We go back and forth exchanging images and messages until it’s time to get my son ready for school. After I drop him off, I get dressed myself and continue my work, whatever that needs to be done. This includes: packing, shipping, inventory updates, managing orders, sketching, planning photoshoots, interviews and writing content for my website or to fulfill requests from other content writers.

To purchase and see more of Lavanya Coodly’s designs check out her website:www.lavanyacoodly.com.

How amazing is Lavanya Coodly, and what a beautiful name too. With her love for fashion at a young age and beginning her own business and fashion line having no formal training is true talent. Her story and passion has definitely inspired me and I hope it inspires and motivates you to create the life you want and to build your dreams and make them a reality.

A true inspiration and Ladyboss. Can’t wait to see Lavanya’s newest collection coming soon!

And to all my fellow lady boss’s — live life with passion and live your best life possible. Have fun, work hard, stay motivated, determined, and good luck! Stay tuned!

Thank you Lavanya Coodly for partnering and collaborating with me on this post. All thoughts outside of Q&A answers are my own.

FASHION FRIDAY: TRUE LADY BOSSES WHO MADE THEIR DREAMS INTO REALITY EDITION PART II

Posted on: May 20, 2016

Ever wanted to pick the brain of a fashion designer and see just  where all their inspiration comes from? Ever wanted to learn a designers aesthetic and see how they create their designs from start to finish?

Continue reading and learn more about Fashion accessories designer: Maria Cardelli.

Q. Give us a little background of yourself, how did you get started in design?

A. I have been designing my entire life. I started very young, and used to draw all over my school books even during school lessons. I began painting at around age 10, and spent all my pocket money on new pencils, watercolours and paints. I still remember when I found my first set of watercolour pencils in the shop. I was so excited! As a teenager, I used to spend evenings and late nights working on oil paintings. Since at the time we didn’t have the internet, I had to teach myself and just figure things out. An artist friend of my dad lent him a book on basic painting techniques, how to prepare your own mix of gesso, how to stretch a canvas, etc., which I learned from, as well as from my own mistakes. At that time, my works were mostly figurative, and sometimes a friend would pose for me.

Q. What lead you into the direction of designing Clothing?

A. At a certain point I had to make a decision whether to go into fine art, architecture or fashion design. Since I really enjoyed designing my own clothing, which my aunt Matilde was making for me, I opted for fashion design and joined the Accademia di Moda e Costume in Rome. After a couple of years, eager to get some hands on experience, I began looking for freelance work with companies all over Italy. A friend of mine mentioned someone she knew in NYC who was designing children shoes, and recommended that I stop there on my way to California, where I was headed. I did. I ended up working at BBC international for 7 years, designing children’s shoes for very diverse clients.

Q.  Where does your inspiration come from when designing your pieces?

A. I’m mostly inspired by my own past designs. I dig into my pile of sketches and things that I drew but hadn’t had a chance to produce and I rework them, often for hours or even days, until I come up with something that I am happy with. I may take a piece from one of my bags and make it into a strap for a shoe, or sometimes get an idea while at night when I am trying to sleep. I always keep a sketch pad near the bed for those moments of inspiration. Other times I get inspired from a new leather treatment I find, or a fun fabric I see, and I may design a bag or a shoe just to use them.

Q. What is your design process? What types of things do you or don’t you incorporate?

A. I plan the categories I want to cover in the handbags, or the heel heights I want represented if I am working on the footwear, and then I start drawing ideas. I may draw numerous rough sketches in a little book I keep around, then I choose the ideas I like the most and develop only these. Since my brand is a small company, I cannot make a very large collection, so I do a preselection at an early stage. I then carry ideas from the footwear into the hand bags or vice versa, so that they can complement each other. Once I am happy with my designs I start with the prototyping process.

Q.  Do you envision the wearer when you’re designing your pieces? Who do you envision?

A. I mostly design things that I would like to wear myself. I don’t have many opportunities to wear glamorous shoes myself, so when designing footwear I imagine the wearer at a special event, all evening, and I try to make them beautiful and functional. (For example, I can sometimes add platforms in the front of the shoe so that the heel does not feel as high as it looks.) When designing the bags, I like making them beautiful and practical as well, with useful inside pockets, removable shoulder straps or even bags that can be used 3 ways, like a handbag, shoulder bag and also backpack (like my Back-Up bag). All of my bags have the modern working woman in mind, and are large enough to fit a laptop and other gadgets, so that she can always travel and work in great style.

Q. What are some new designs you’re working on? What do you envision for the future?

A. I am currently working on the spring-summer collection for 2017. Lots of gorgeous colours, simple, sophisticated and clean lines, and some fun prints.

Q. How did you come to realize your talents? Did youhave any formal training for jewelry design and or clothing design?

e83807_188306259fb245609060120a947aeea8-mv1 (1)

A. My true love is to create more luxurious products, ones allowing for more creativity. And, I always wanted to go back and produce things in Italy, and to one day be able to create something more special and unique as a tribute of sorts to Italian craftsmanship. I took part in numerous art exhibitions around Europe for a few years. Many people commented on my colourful paintings in a way that made me think that I could probably have them printed on silk and make scarves, or ‘wearable art.” So, in 2013 I started doing that. After that I added a collection of handbags and now a small collection of women’s footwear for winter 2016-17. Everything I design is made in Italy.

Q.  What were your first designs that you created? And how has your brand evolved over the years?

  A. To be honest, I’ve been doing this for so long I can’t remember my first design. But come to think of it, it might have been some kind of clothing. And as far as how my designs have evolved, I think they probably evolved with what i’ve included in my designs and I attribute that to what I have learned through the years. When I started, for example, I used to design only very elegant footwear with leather soles and artsy heels. However, after working with factories in many parts of the world and designing many different types of footwear, from wooden clogs to athletics and dress, I incorporate that knowledge into my designs and I can mix and match styles as I please, for example incorporating some typically athletic feature into the more elegant styles, and I can have more fun in the process.

Q. How did you go about creating your business plan and what was your starting investment?

A. I had gained some experience already while working for others, but did additional research before creating my own company, especially since I didn’t know the rules in The Netherlands. (Where my husband and I relocated.) My husband has been my main supporter of course. And, he had been telling me for years that I should do my own collection. So he helped me by financing most of it. The rest came from cashing out my pension plan.

Q. What is a typical day in your life and at your office?

A. In the morning I take care of my 2 children. I get them ready for school and when they are off, I work until I have to pick them up at 3:30. Once they are in bed for the night, I pick up my work again. Fortunately, I work on my own and, without many distractions, I can be as productive as possible. And, with all the communication tools we have these days like Skype and video calls, I can talk to the factories regularly and make many corrections to the products without leaving my desk. Sometimes traveling is still necessary, especially at the prototype stage, but thankfully, Italy is not far from The Netherlands.

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAYS: TRUE GIRL BOSSES WHO MADE THEIR DREAMS INTO REALITY PART II

Are you an aspiring jewelry designer who wants to get into the Jewelry business? Continue reading along and see how this dynamic duo created their own jewelry line and see what it has grown into today from when they first started? Check out my Q&A session I had with the designers behind the Jewelry line: ALIJST.

Q. What is your name?

A. Co-Founders: Stacy A. Noz and Jil Lin.

Q. Give us a little background of yourself, how did you get started in jewelry design?

A. ALIJST was formed in 2015 by two women as Co-founders, Stacy Noz as Managing Director and Jil Lin as Creative Director.  Both co-founders shared the same passion and appreciation in jewelry and learned up to visualize their vision. Coming form different backgrounds, Lin’s of jewellery design and Noz’s of the Fashion Media Industries, their teamwork are of the right combination.

The Co-founders:

Stacy A. Noz, grew up with a multinational upbringing that includes Dutch, Indonesian and Chinese heritage, she internalized the combination of different cultures as her inspiration, as well as a Fashion Media & Industries at Lasalle College of The Arts graduate that honed her skills in business and aesthetics.

Jin Lin, is a Singapore based Jewellery Design graduate from Raffles Design Institute. She was the only Singaporean selected by HRD in 2011, for the 14th HRD Diamond Design Awards. Armed with no only jewellery design, this multi-disciplinary designer with a sculpting background has represented Singapore multiple times in international Snow-Sculpting competitions and Symposiums.

Q. Did you have any formal training for your jewelry design? How did you come to realize your talents?

A. Our Creative Direct and Jewelry designer, Jil Lin, graduated from Raffles Design Institute Singapore in Jewelry Design. She initially started as a Fine Arts of Sculpting major switched to jewelry design. Her deeper understanding in the arts continues as she changed her path to become a jewelry designer.

Q. What lead you into the direction of designing Jewelry?

A. We believe that jewelry is a means of self-expression higher than clothing would have on a whole look. the idea of something so subtle but so loud interests us to the point of designing our very own versions of how we feel, jewelry should look and be worn for women with unique tastes and desire.

Q. Where does your inspiration come from when designing your pieces?

A.  Our inspiration comes from art and culture primarily capturing the provocative and controversial side of a subject. There’s always a strong concept and story behind each of our collections. We take the elements of each concept and translate it into precious, contemporary, yet timeless jewelry pieces. We focus on the sensuality of the skin and how jewelry compliments a woman’s presence. For example on our first collection “ Domina,” we took provocative and intriguing exterior from different elements and turned them into wearable art.

Q.  What were your first design pieces that you created? And how has your brand evolved over the years?

A. We launched back in late 2015, so our current collection happens to be our first design pieces. Our brand is coming into a new season’s collection that are sill in preparation to launch soon for Spring/Summer 2016.

Q.  What is your process when you design your piece? What are things you incorporate or don’t?

A. Firstly, a concept is usually taken in and elaborated for a whole collection. Then, when all is set from there, our designer will take notes on the subject matter based on direct or indirect influences and begins sketching ideas for the collection’s pieces.

There are no limits to things we incorporate into designing the pieces because our whole image

mainly revolves around pushing boundaries . Everything finally depends on the aesthetic and

especially the feel of the end design.

Q. Who do you envision wearing your designs? Do you think about this when you’re designing your pieces?

A. Our ALIJST WOMAN: The powerful, sophisticated modern-women. Women who are proud to expose their true-selves and thrive for excellence in every aspect of their lives. They are the ones who stride with an air of grace when entering a room. We definitely have these women in mind when designing new pieces.

Q. What are some new designs you’re working on? What do you envision for the future?

A.  Currently, we are preparing the launch of our Spring/Summer 2016 Collection, a continuation from our first collection (Autumn/Winter 2015- DOMINA). In comparison, the designs of our upcoming collection are heading towards a more subtle, feminine aesthetic look. The pieces are easier to mix and match.

Q. How did you go about creating your business plan and what was your starting investment?

A. We did numerous research and (both qualitative and quantitative) surveys in order to help us create a business plan. When the result came in we were surprised by the numbers and all efforts led us to create ALIJST.

Our starting investments was definitely having strong concepts and ideas. We studied and explored how wild the ideas can be, and most importantly, we understand the “unspoken” borderline/limitation on how some designs are to be accepted by audiences.

Q. What is a typical day in your life and at the office?

A. A typical day in our lives mostly consist of working on building ALIJST’s brand image and future collections as we are pretty new in the industry so we’d like to make our mark. At the office, we have a small group of individuals working closely together who invest valuable time on their task given to expand the label.

The dynamic duo behind ALIJST are true, innovated Girlboss designers. They truly have a passion for their business. Looking forward to see their upcoming collection coming soon!   To learn more about ALIJST and the creators behind the jewelry line go to their website: http://www.alijst.com

Recently, while looking through Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook during my daily fashion patrol for: latest trends, style, etc… I stumbled upon this unique jewelry designer Christine K.  And I wanted to learn more about her jewelry line. I mean what woman doesn’t love chic, sophisticated and unique jewels with Diamonds accents, I LOVE and DIE! So beautiful!!  Once I got in contact with Christine K’s  PR team I was able to do a little Q &A session with the designer. It gave me a chance to get to know her better,  see how she got her start in design and how she started her business. Continue reading and learn about her, the  jewelry and so much more.

Q. What is your name?

A. Christine K, I’m Korean living in Los Angeles, California.

Q. Give us a little background of yourself, how did you get started in jewelry design?

A. I started designing after college. I went to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles and worked in the fashion industry for about four years. Since I was a little girl, I wanted to be in the Fashion industry. I couldn’t think of anything else [I’d rather go] besides fashion. But later on I discovered I wanted to design fine jewelry, so I enrolled to learn about pearls and diamonds at the Gemological Institute of America.

Q. What lead you into the direction of designing Jewelry?

A. I started working as an assistant buyer and intern, but later on I started designing clothing. They actually sold well and I kept designing. Also, my love of fashion pushed me into this direction. I’m of lover of all things pretty; I bet every girl likes pretty things, like I do. But I wanted to create something on my own.

Q. Where does your inspiration come from when designing your pieces?

A. My inspiration comes from luxury and simplicity, the modern yet contemporary, the feminine and somewhat minimalist. I like simultaneously modern and simple styles with a feminine side.

Q.  What is your process when you design your piece? What are things you incorporate or don’t?

A. I think the design and color first, then I buy gems, pearls and diamonds from international jewelry shows or local jewelry markets. I match gems, double-check the shades of gold matches with center stones, and I always think of a theme last. My last theme was rose gold, two-color diamonds and black diamonds.

Q. What are some new designs you’re working on? What do you envision for the future?

A. I’m currently working on colored stones. I’m working on cocktail colored stone rings and engagement rings. I love pastel colored stones light pink morganite and smokey pink tourmaline. They’re tones are very beautiful and I fall in love with them at first sight. As of right now. I’ve done both diamond and pearl lines. for Christine K jewelry. You can view the collections at: http: www.ohmychristine.com.

Q.  What were your first design pieces that you created? And how has your brand evolved over the years?

A. This is my first design brand. I love black diamonds and feminine style, so I combined them as one style. The piece makes your hand look appear like is tied with a ribbon. It’s very feminine and the black diamonds catches light well. It’s been only eight months since I opened my online store. Most people like it but fine jewelry is not something everyone can own. Also it needs extra care, so customers need to practice good care techniques. I think Christine K jewelry is slowly evolving and I hope many people will notice it and appreciate my brand.

Q. How did you go about creating your business plan and what was your starting investment?

A. First, I came up with an idea. I started calculating costs for my new brand, then I wrote down every possible expense I came up with. When I added everything up like: supplies, website  fees, marketing, etc.. the total funds required I came up with at the very minimum was $10,000. I invested more as the company grew, but my starting investment was $10,000.

Q. What’s a typical day in your life at your office?

A. On a typical work day, I’ll wake up around 7 am, take my dog for a walk and make some coffee before jumping into the shower. First thing in the morning I check my orders. Sometimes, I have lunch meetings with my jeweler or supplier. Sometimes, I have photoshoots scheduled for products or models. If i’m not too busy, I sit at the office and come up with marketing ideas; I manage my instagram, Pinterest and tumblr. Some days I go to local jewelry markets to buy gems and pearls for future designs. L.A. is a great city if you enjoy restaurants and there are so many hiking trails and beaches you can go to. During the weekend I enjoy California wheaten by going to the beaches and shopping around Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica and Malibu.

A complete girls dream to grow there own business going off of their love and passion for fashion… Dreams really do come true.

Continue to work hard and dream big loves. Anything is possible as you can see from Christine. She took her dreams and love for Fashion and made it a reality and created her own business. True inspiration at it’s finest. I enjoyed my Q & A session with her and she is a truly an empowering and remarkable woman. Not to mention how her hard work and dedication to her craft is truly inspiring.

Whatever your dreams are and whatever you want to do in life, just remember anything is possible, with hard work, dedication and determination.  I hope this inspires you all to go out there and be the Girlboss you always wanted to be. Live the life you want for yourself. Live for a purpose and live your best life possible.

Thank you Christine K. for partnering and collaborating with me on this post. All thoughts are my own outside of the Q&A answers.

Love can move Mountains: The Passion

In light of recent events in the world, I thought to write this post. And with it being Palm Sunday and the Lenten Season I feel it’s only fitting. It’s a time for sacrifice, a time to give thanks, a time to reflect, to give hope and love to one another. I want this post to serve as a means for inspiration, a means for hope, and to show love to everyone in the world.

I wouldn’t call myself super super religious, but I’m a worshiper and believer in my own right as a Catholic . And with today being Palm Sunday, this would be a great post to speak about hope, love, sacrifice and a time to give thanks. I thought it was very fitting for this to air on television with it being Palm Sunday after all. After watching the modern day take of The Passion, it made me think about a lot of things, especially what’s currently going on in the world today. Even if your not religious or even Catholic, I hope this post can speak to you and inspire you.

This is a great story of the all mighty and creator of the universe– Jesus Christ. Tyler Perry takes us on a journey through New Orleans, the backdrop for this musical event. Tyler Perry narrates and tells us the story of Jesus Christ and his followers has he spreads his word making his most ultimate sacrifice for all humanity, offering salvation for all those who believe. A story about betrayal, friendship, hope, sacrifice  and forgiveness something that speaks to us all. But a story about love in it’s truest form.

“New Orleans, an iconic city in itself. Filled with so much culture and history similar to that of Jerusalem so it seemed fitting to place this modern day version of “The Passion” in a city like that of New Orleans. This city too, prevailed and rose again after the affects of Hurricane Katrina. Leaving many homeless, hungry and in a state of despair. But just like Jesus, the city rose, prevailed, and once again became restored. While the community and many others came together to help rebuild. Redefining, reflecting and reminding themselves what New Orleans stood for . Realizing that giving them hope,  love and the resources to rebuild up New Orleans like how it was before. And now, the people of New Orleans stand proud, with their hearts filled with hope and love, a true inspiration in itself.  This is the true message and sacrifice that Jesus was showed and was trying to spread, showing that ‘Love can truly move mountains,” which is what the people of New Orleans invoked when trying to rebuild and regain their lives after this natural disaster.

The music incorporated in “The Passion” were hit songs from today that fit well with each scene in this modern rendition. The music made you feel the words and realize the importance of God’s word. I don’t know about you I felt the love and the yearning for hope that evening, and for the world. The show in it’s entirety, I thought was truly remarkable and the message and story is still alive, and well-known even today. If you haven’t seen this or heard of the story, it’s truly powerful, it’s message is a true testament of the truly meaning of Love, sacrifice, hope, and forgiveness. And I recommend it to everyone.

I also enjoyed the diverse cast coming together in this compelling and empowering event. I hope that after you see this post and if you watch “The Passion” I hope it can inspire and empower you. I hope that it will shed some light of purpose and hope for you, the future, and that we can overcome anything when you try and seek everything in life with love, passion, hope, and more.  Christians during this time of Lent, we learn to sacrifice, show compassion, listen to the words of God through worship and remember what he did for us. Jesus Christ showed us great LOVE by sacrificing himself for us. That is the truest form of love anyone can show the world.

” When will the hate end?” ” When will we all come together, and realize that love and peace is more important and hate is just a means for continued turmoil and tragedy… ” But what can we all learn from this?In relations to recent events, the country Belgium, specifically Brussels was attacked and many were hurt, and left for dead during this tragedy. My question is, And it’s not just Brussels who have endured such attacks, we all feel the effects of this tragedy. And not to long ago, Paris was attacked and many died as well. Just like Paris, I know that through the help of all of us, sending our prayers and thoughts to Brussel, they too,  will rise and prevail through all this. I hope we can all learn something from Jesus Christ and his sacrifices and the love he showed us. He died for us, for our sins, and he rose again. That is the truest form of LOVE one could do for all humanity. We need to practice this in our society, and show more love and compassion for others. And not turn to hate, or discrimination for others. This is the time for hope, this is the time for peace. Just like Jesus did with his disciples he spread love, he gave them hope, he made them realize that peace will come again. Love can move mountains and we can/will rise and prevail.

We don’t need to die to show our sacrifices, but we need to lean towards peace and love rather than hate. We need to show and spread more love, give hope and spread peace throughout the world. Maybe one day, our country will be rid of the hate, and maybe just maybe we will live in a loving and peaceful world that is safe for our children and the rest of the world. This maybe wishful thinking and me and many wanting to live in a dream world,  but we can only hope for a better tomorrow for all.

I hope everyone had a great Easter!  I hope this post enlightened and inspired you to do better not just for yourself but for the greater humanity. Wishing you all an abundance of Love, Light, Happiness, Peace, Hope, and Blessings for today and the future.

**If you didn’t catch the live show of The Passion, you can watch it now available on Hulu, or on the Fox App on your Apple TV or Roku device.

How do you inspire others?

Beauty Tips for your Lips

Posted on: February 23, 2016

Happy Tuesday Loves!

Today for Beauty Tuesday, i’m talking about lips — sugar lips to be exact. Well, when I say sugar lips, I’m talking about sugar exfoliators that help keep our lips supple, smooth and moisturized throughout the cold winter months. Or just even when our lips could use a little TLC.  I don’t know about you, but with the cold weather upon us here in New York City, my lips have been extra dry. Not even my trusty holy grail Esos lip balm is enough to keep my lips from drying.

I’ve tried and tested out different products and nothing seemed to work. Until I found this sugar lip scrub and it has helped drastically. It’s done wonders for my lippys. And I’m all about sharing, (sharing is caring) all my beauty tips and trick with you lovelies.

My go to sugar lip scrub is from Skinn Cosmetics by Dimitri James. Dimitri James is a aesthetician and cosmetologist that strives to bring the best and innovated beauty products to the world that are loaded with color and contain anti-aging ingredients. HIs purpose and devotion to the beauty industry is something that’s truly remarkable and admirable. Who wouldn’t love that!!

After trying this product, I fell in love, as did my lips. I use this product twice a week, and my lips felt smooth and nourished. And not cracked and dry. When I added my lip balm after, my lips felt extra moisturized. I absolutely recommend this product and I know you’ll love it just as much as I do.

You can find it at: http://www.skinn.com/product/sugar-lips-polishing-scrub-for-lips-laugh-lines/ for $20.00 with flavors like: Bubble Gum (Original flavor) and Strawberry Daquiri to choose from.

And if you want something quick and easy and a great DIY Sugar Lip Scrub Exfoliator I have just the trick!

Sugar Lip Scrub DIY :

1 tablespoon Coconut Oil

1 tablespoon of Brown Sugar (or 2 Packets of Brown sugar)

1 teaspoon of honey

Mix all the ingredients together. Apply the lip scrub to your lips and gently massage in a circular motion. Rinse off and pat dry. Use as often as desired or when your lips need a little TLC.

**FACT** Sugar is a great ingredient to use especially brown sugar because it’s great and beneficial in removing dead skin cells.

Products I used during the Winter Months to keep my skin Hydrated.

Posted on: January 19, 2016

The cold weather is upon us!!  It’s starting to feel like winter, EEK !!!!!

With the cold weather upon us, it’s important to keep our skin from suffering.  Here I’ll share the products I use to keep my skin hydrated and moisturized. During the winter months, our skin loses moisture, leaving it dry, frail, and dull. This means we need to give our skin even more TLC and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. So our skin stays replenished and supple all year round. I’m big on taking care of my skin.  Every day and night I follow a routine, check out my skin care regiment, I posted a couple months ago. Stick to a routine and keep your skin healthy, moisturized and glowing all year round!

Here are my holy grail products that help keep my skin: moisturized, healthy, supple, and glowing throughout the winter months.

*****My new fave product*****

Dermologica PreCleanse, I found this out from Desi Perkin’s Snapchat, and I had to get it and try it. And I absolutely LOVE it!! It literally takes off ALL my make up. So I find myself not needing to use my make-up wipes that can dry out my skin at times.  But after using this before I cleanse my face, it’s been a game changer for my face.  I’m SO happy I got it and tried it and now i’ve incorporated it into my updated skincare routine. I feel so fresh and clean and I see a big improvement in my skin after using this product. In my opinion, it’s a great product, even during the winter months. Precleanse is absolutely AMAZING, if you haven’t tried this product out you should.

Dermologica PreCleanse : $38.00 (Great for taking off ALL your make-up, it literally melts off, doesn’t feel greasy or overly oily after, just fresh and clean)

Beauty Grape Water : 1 oz $18.00 / 3.4 oz $49.00

Caulie Beauty Elixer : 6.7 oz $18.00/ 2.5 oz $10.00

No.7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advance Serum : 1 oz $29.99

Dermologica Active Moist Moisturizer : $41.00

Josie Maran Light Argan  Oil : $48.00
